He was born in Manacor Spain and started his professional football career with his home town club of RCD Mallorca. In 2003, he shifted and moved on to FC Bordeaux as he could hardly manage 10 appearances in the 2 seasons he played for the previous club.
He had more than 50 appearances with this club and this helped him improve his game play and performance. Although he managed to just score a total of four goals, this was a start to a successful career. Albert Riera came back to Spain in the 2005 and signed up with RCD Espanyol. He was however unable to establish himself in this season which is why he was moved on to Manchester City. The same problem showed up there and eventually in 2006 he shifted to Catalonia.
Albert Riera signed up a 8 million dollar deal with Liverpool in the year 2008 and he finally made his Premier League debut on the 13th September, 2008. On the 23rd of July, he however joined the Greek club Olympiacos F.C for a four year contract. He was supposedly rumored to have been signed off for 6 million dollars which is equivalent to a sum of 2.5 million dollars per season, one of the highest paid deals. Albert Riera had his debut in international career with Spain in 2007 when he played the UEFA 2008 qualifiers against Denmark and helped his team to win while scoring a goal himself.
