RIERA: WATFORD CAREER IN SUMMARY

Albert Rieraterminated his contract with Turkish Super League giants Galatasaray and he signed a pre-contract agreement with Italian side Udinese shortly afterwards. He had earlier joined Galatasaray on a four-year deal during the summer’s transfer window in 2011. Albert Riera had 18 months left on his Galatasaray contract when he reached an agreement with the Turkish club to terminate the said contract for €750,000. In the latter stages of his career at Galatasaray, Riera played at left-back mainly due to the lack of options in the position other than HakanBalta who had fitness issues.

Aurelien Tchouameni is keeping his cards close to his chest as the saga surrounding his immediate future continues to rumble on. The Monaco midfielder has emerged as one of the standout players in European football, with the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all vying for his signature. Tchouameni was recently named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season but Monaco look set to cash in with a price tag of more than £65million on his head.

RIERA URGES GOMEZ TO LEAVE LIVERPOOL THIS SUMMER

Former Liverpool star Albert Riera has urged the club’s central defender Joe Gomez to leave the club so he can earn himself more game time. West Ham United are in the hunt to sign the English defender this summer with games hard to come by at Liverpool, according to 90min. The 24-year-old has been budged down the pecking order at centre-half at Anfield with both Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate being Jurgen Klopp’s preferred partners for Virgil van Dijk.

The 11-time England international is attracting a lot of eyes from other clubs in the Premier League but 90min report that the Irons are one of four sides to have expressed the biggest interest. RIERA: LIVERPOOL CAREER REVIEWED

Spanish winger Albert Riera signed for Premier League heavyweights Liverpool on the final day of the summer’s transfer window in 2008. Liverpool paid £8m to secure the signing of Albert Riera from Spanish club Espanyol on September 1, 2008. He was given the number 11 shirt upon his transfer to Liverpool.

Albert Riera made his Liverpool debut during the Premier League clash with Manchester United on September 13, 2008. He played 71 minutes of the game which ended in a 2-1 win for his team. The winger didn’t have to wait too much for his first goal in a Liverpool shirt as he scored one of the goals to lead his team to a 3-2 win over Wigan Athletic in the league on October 18, 2008. Riera also scored for Liverpool during the 3-1 win over Dutch team PSV Eindhoven in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

RIERA TIPS TOTTENHAM FOR UCL SPOT NEXT SEASON

The new season may only be starting but clubs are already outlining their goals that they want to achieve come the end of the season. Others are also making their intentions known and clear talking about what they would like to have achieved when next season starts. While the real title contenders in the English Premier League are already assessing their options and finding out just how easy or difficult it will be for the to achieve their aim, there others who want to battle it out for a top-four finish and Tottenham Hotspur happen to be one of those clubs who are set to make themselves worthy to fight for a UEFA Champions League spot next season.

The London club are already aware of the fact that it will be very difficult and almost impossible for them to finish in one of the first four positions in the league this season but they also believe it is worth the shot and that the race is wide open, according to their manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The Spurs head coach believes that the fact that the league’s “big boys” have all splashed money to bolster their respective squads this season makes it even harder to compete with them but he insists that they are not going to back down. RIERA GIVES LIVERPOOL REASONS TO SIGN A NEW STRIKER

Although English Premier League giants Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign several players this summer, none of the mentioned players is a striker and their former player Albert Riera has asked them to cross-check their transfer plans this summer and try to sign a new forward. The Reds have already confirmed the signing of a defender in Ibrahima Konate and have been linked with moves for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Bissouma, a midfielder, amongst others. But Riera says that even though he knows that they need to sign a new midfielder to replace Giorginio Wijnaldum who left this summer, they, more importantly, need to sign another striker.

The former Red believes that Liverpool do have a fine crop of options in their attack currently but stated that they have only two out-and-out strikers in the team in Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. However, he says that Firmino is no longer producing the goals and Jota, who seem to be more active and productive in front of goal at the moment, rarely gets enough games under his belt.

RIERA: JURGEN KLOPP IS A GREAT MANAGER

Former Liverpool player Albert Riera has heaped praise on the Reds’ current manager, Jurgen Klopp, insisting that the German tactician is a great manager and that he wished he had played under him at Liverpool. Klopp has indeed proved that he is currently one of the best managers around for his exploits at Anfield in recent years and has also earned his status as one of the top managers in the game.

The London club confirmed yesterday that they were sacking the Portuguese manager through an official announcement which was made public by the club’s chairman Daniel Levy. Mourinho has now left the club with immediate effect and Ryan Mason has been tasked with the responsibility of taking the players through their drills in training and preparing them for their upcoming fixtures, especially their cup final against Manchester City.

The player himself may also not be fascinated by the fact that it’s the anniversary of the day he decided to hang his boots and quit playing football finally. This is due to the fact that even the playing career was not an enjoyed one, so there’s little or no reason for it to be celebrated in the first place.
